Everyone has heard about the extraordinary usefulness of its berries. Only not everyone even tries every year. We do not grow it in gardens, why, because in any forest you can find it. And it’s not customary to go to the forest for rowan trees. Go and pick it up in the woods! Here they are, berries, there are 10 buckets hanging right above the head, but try, get to them. They reached out to one brush, chewed – that’s enough, I don’t want to anymore – this is not a sweet Victoria, you can’t eat much. And in vain, where are the garden strawberries to rowan usefulness? Yes, and delicious mountain ash happens, as soon as the frosts hit, the mountain ash bitterness turns into sweetness.
It is impossible to overestimate the usefulness of mountain ash berries. In medical practice, they are used for vitamin deficiencies, for many types of liver and heart diseases. Juice from fresh berries is drunk with low acidity of gastric juice. If a mixture of equal parts of dried fruits of mountain ash and rose hips is steamed with boiling water, and then during the day you drink a glass of this infusion, no vitamin deficiency is terrible, you will meet spring as vigorous and energetic as you were in August, as if there was no winter depleting the body. How to grow mountain ash
The cultivation of garden rowan is possible in the most severe climatic conditions, where other fruit and berry crops freeze out. The best varieties of mountain ash
ALAYA KRUPNAYA – one of the most valuable varieties of red rowan for intensive culture. The variety was obtained from the pollination of mountain ash with a mixture of pollen of pear varieties, followed by crossing with the Moravian mountain ash. The variety is characterized by high winter hardiness, frost and disease resistance. Fruiting begins 3-4 years after planting in the garden. The yield is plentiful, bears fruit annually. The harvest comes to160 Kgfrom the tree. The flowers are larger than those of wild mountain ash, therefore, one fruit shield contains 150-180 berries. The fruits are large, in2.4 g, scarlet red, very attractive, cherry-like in shape and size. The fruits are juicy, with a sour-sweet taste and light tartness. The fruits ripen in September and keep well on the branch until the first frost. You can store them in a deep container in the cellar until February. The variety is prone to self-fertility, but the quality of the crop improves with mixed varietal plantings. Rowan ALAYA LARGE blooms 5-7 days after the apple tree blossoms.
BUSINKA is a new intensive type. The variety is characterized by complex resistance to extreme environmental factors, growth: early spring thaws and sharp drops in temperature in the spring, as well as to pests and diseases. The tree is not tall, it is distinguished by an early entry into the season of fruiting and abundant productivity. Better plants bear fruit in mixed varietal plantings (that is, it would be good to plant 2 mountain ash of different varieties on the site). Fruits of regular rounded shape, weighing up to1 gand more, ripen at the end of August and are stored until December. The fruits do not have the typical tart taste of mountain ash and are highly vitamin-rich. The fresh fruit tastes like cranberries.
BURKA – variety obtained by I.V. Michurin. The tree is undersized, compact, height no more than 1.3-2 m, less winter-hardy, drought-resistant and disease-resistant than those described above. Fruiting annually, begins to bear fruit 2-3 years after planting in the garden. Fruits are dark brown, dull, ripen in September, the mass of fruits is more1 g… The fruits keep well on the tree until frost, transportable, maturing, can be stored until spring. BURKA grows on any soil, it cannot stand only waterlogged ones.
Dessert Michurina – one of the best rowan varieties obtained by IV Michurin, which is recommended for cultivation in our zone. The tree is undersized, depending on the method of formation, it can grow as a bush, winter-hardy, fruitful. Bears fruit annually, abundantly, begins bearing fruit 2-3 years after planting. The fruits are eaten fresh, in dried form they resemble raisins. In a compote made from dried fruits, it gives it a piquant taste and unusual color, makes the compote very vitamin. Fruits ripen very early – in early August, do not crumble, can be stored until January.
DAUGHTER CUBE – a tree of medium height, very winter-hardy and drought-resistant. The yield is high, annual. Disease resistant. Fruit weight1 g, bright orange, have a very high taste, astringency is completely absent. The use of fruits is universal, both fresh and processed. Juice and mountain ash mashed with sugar are especially appreciated. The vitamin content of the fruits is very high.
NEVEZHINSKAYA – a variety of common mountain ash, belongs to the group of sweet mountain ash. Quite a large tree – 5-6 meters… Begins fruiting in 5-6 years. Until the age of 30, the yield increases gradually, the tree lives up to 45-60 years. Fruits are sweet and sour, with low astringency, weight0.5 g… Trees are resistant to adverse conditions, light-requiring, prefer moist soils. Nevezhinskaya mountain ash is not a variety, but a whole population, therefore, there are some deviations from the described properties.
SORBINKA – the growth of the tree is restrained, the harvest is plentiful, annual. The fruits are very large – up to2.6 g, red, with a pleasant sweet and sour taste, yellow pulp, juicy, tender. Fresh fruits are stored for 2 months. The fruits are suitable for fresh consumption and as pureed products. It is recommended to use the fruits for all types of processing: juices, fruit drinks, blends, compotes, preserves, candy fillings.
TITANIUM is a tree of medium height, resistant to adverse factors and diseases. Begins to bear fruit 3 years after planting. The yield is annual, plentiful, in 25 years the harvest reaches200 kgfrom the tree. Fruits are large, 1.8-2 g, dark cherry, sweet-sour taste with slight astringency. The fruits can be used not only for making sweet products, but also for seasoning first courses and for making sauces.
